National grid - prove the power of culture based safety
National Grid's vision is to be a worldclass safety organisation, with zero injuries every day. It has become the number 1 utility company in the UK through growth and acquisition now employing some 35,000 people. One of these mergers included TRANSCO.
JOMC worked closely with TRANSCO company directors and senior management teams. This allowed the set up and full integration of JOMC programmes into daily work practice. The results surpassed initial expectations and were replicated as the programme was later extended to the newly formed National Grid Company with a remarkable fall in Injury Frequency Rate from 0.65 to 0.28. The partnership in the UK continues and has now been extended to the US where National Grid is currently the second largest utility company.
